Flying Above the Clouds

When we fly in an airplane, we go above the clouds where our view is undisturbed and free from obstruction. We see a clear view of the sky. Beneath the clouds our view is disturbed by many other influences to our perception: haziness, cloudiness, and many other kinds of distractions. Our mind functions in the same way. Our normal view of the things around us is often distorted by our memory, by fogginess and misperception. If we can lift our consciousness above the clouds, our view becomes clearer and less distorted by our memory and the condition of our normal mind.


When we meditate, our consciousness goes deep inside to where our view is tuned in to a higher reality where things are seen without distortion. Repeated experience in meditation trains our mind to view reality without distortion from our normal consciousness and all of its memories. We begin to see things as they really are and become free of the stories our mind wants to create.


Events around us trigger memories that pop up onto the screen of our mind and replace what we see with an overlay of a memory that replaces reality with a story from our past. We react to this memory as if it were happening again. As long as we are still reacting to our past memories we cannot see things as they really are and respond more appropriately to each new event.


Meditation takes us to a level of perception that is above the clouds of our memories and shows us a clearer view of reality. At the same time meditation also helps us to neutralize our old memories in a way that helps us to be free of their distortion.


Our best view of reality is a very simple state of awareness that is both clear and undistorted by the past. The more we meditate, the more our view changes and we open our heart to experience things as they really are and become free to respond more appropriately. It takes time but eventually we see things in the light of truth and respond with more love and compassion for everything that happens in our life. Life is here to enjoy. But as long as our memories keep popping up and distorting our view with the stories from our past, we will continue to live a life that is dominated by our past.


Meditation is a great tool to change our habits and our old responses. Each day that we meditate our future is being changed. Eventually we will see the truth every time with a new vision and a new reaction that is full of love and happiness. Every day in every way our meditation is changing our reality from suffering into great happiness and love. We do not meditate for today. We meditate to change our view in the future. What happens today you cannot change. But what will happen in the future and how we will view our life in the future we can change today by doing our regular meditation. Meditate today and change your future tomorrow.
